HISTORY
The ORIGINS
5 centuries of history.
A rare example of a sixteenth-century villa, the Casino Le Stranti, known as Casino Raho, testifies in Salento, dedicated to the construction of defensive works,
the phenomenon of the diffusion in Italy of villas and rural residences as a privileged place of the humanistic otium between the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.

The "Casina Raho" B&B is located in a finely renovated building dating back to the early 16th century.
The 'property seems to be identified with the summer residence built just outside the city limits by the second duke of Nardò, Giò Bernardino Acquaviva, before 1541.
Of the original structure we do not know the actual architectural features, but two seventeenth-century cartographic representations make it possible to emphasize the division on two floors:
the main floor divided into rooms closed at the top with truss roofs and the arrangement of the area in front of the front elevation with Italian-style gardens and cultivation areas
In the façade, the simple and orderly compositional scheme is characterized by an arched central access with an overlying loggia and two symmetrical side windows.
The structure continues to be used as a suburban residence for the "pleasure" of the owners until the early nineteenth century and at the end of the eighteenth century the complex underwent a restructuring process to adapt the pre-existing architectural organism to make it more suited to taste of the time and more suitable for the extended stay of the owners in the country residence required by the increased interest in wine production in need of special care.
Following this transformation, the building is equipped with a scenographic well and displays a particular architectural physiognomy characterized by the introduction of decorative elements such as the refined balustrade with Ionic motifs, the corner columns with Ionic capitals in the corners of the facade.
The chapel leaning against the Casino and the well was built in October 1836.
Between the end of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century, almost completely losing the function of "support" to agricultural activities, it increasingly fulfills the function of summer residence and representation for the wealthier classes, the building undergoes a process of increase of the original nucleus that transforms the Casino complex in the form in which in 1939 the building was reported to the Technical Tax Office.
